Shot of Jameson, please

Jameson w wine.JPGThat's Jameson, drinking farewell toasts with friends at Cure, on Capitol Hill. Yes, Jameson Fink, in case you don't know him, is the latest under-the-radar Seattle resident to decamp for a national platform, in his case Senior Editor of the Wine Enthusiast magazine; he'll be based in New York.

Originally from Chicago, Jameson, 43 and slightly geeky, has lived on Cap Hill for a decade, writing about wine and spirits for online publicaions such as msn.com and foodista.com. Most recently he found his stride with a site called the Grape Collective. Saveur named his eponymous blog, subtitled Wine Without Worry, one of the internet's top sites for wine coverage, the third year in a row he's been nominated.

At Wine Enthusiast, he won't concentrate on Northwest wine, though. (Sean Sullivan of Washington Wine Report covers Washington & Idaho; Paul Gregutt, longtime wine writer for the Seattle Times who now lives in Waitsburg, covers Oregon.) Instead, Jameson will work on front-of-the-book lifestyle stories. Wine & People; Food & Travel, that sort of thing. And forgive me if I call him Jameson; everyone does.

We think of ourselves (sometimes, sometimes) as living in a backwater, or in a third-rate coastal fishing village. Yes, Tim Egan still lives here and writes environmentally-themed opinion columns for the NY Times. But you turn around and our best talent is in Noo Yawk. Aaron Brown to CNN, Lindy West to Gawker, Barlett Sher to Broadway, Dominic Holden to BuzzFeed; Now Jameson is g-gone, too. We all wish you godspeed, good fortune, and the best of wines. Cheers!

UPDATE: Jameson's farewell to Seattle post.
